2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Preview | Sherman, TX
For the 2022 model year, Chevrolet is making some significant changes to the Silverado 1500 pickup truck — and all of them look quite good. Here’s a glimpse at what to expect.
Redesigned Interior and Exterior
The first thing that stands out about the new Silverado 1500 is the redesigned front end, with its wing-shaped running lights and their animated lighting sequence. However, the interior is where the meat of the changes can be found. On the LT trim and up, the truck includes more upscale materials and a handsome, modernized dashboard. Overall, it’s simply a nicer place to be.
Bigger Infotainment Screen
On top of the design changes, the 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 also gets a major infotainment upgrade. Starting on the LT trim, it has a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and a large, landscape-oriented 13.4-inch touch-screen display. It comes with wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ smartphone compatibility as well as built-in Google Assistant.
Revised Engine Lineup
The 2022 Silverado 1500 also gets a few new toys under the hood. The turbocharged 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine now produces 420 lb-ft of torque, up from 383 lb-ft in the previous model, thanks in part to transmission optimizations. Chevy also worked on the compatibility between the Duramax® turbodiesel engine and the truck’s chassis and Max Trailering Package. As a result, it can now tow up to 13,300 pounds, up from 9,500 pounds.
Trailer-Compatible Hands-Free Driving
Possibly the most significant update to the Chevy Silverado 1500 is the availability of Super Cruise, an advanced hands-free driving feature that the automaker says is compatible when pulling a trailer. On more than 200,000 miles of highway across North America, the Silverado 1500 will be able to automatically accelerate, brake, steer, and even perform lane changes.
