Chevy Launches First Silverado PPV for Police Departments
For the first time ever, Chevrolet has launched a pursuit-rated Silverado 1500 pickup intended for use by law enforcement. Dubbed the Silverado PPV (Police Pursuit Vehicle), the rugged truck features massive 16-inch front brake rotors, a 2-inch lift option, and a rear locker.
Chevy has long provided police departments with pursuit vehicles, including the famous Tahoe SUV, but this is the first time it gives the PPV treatment to one of its trucks. It shares many components with the Tahoe such as the 355-horsepower 5.3-liter V8 engine, 10-speed automatic transmission, all-wheel-drive system, 20-inch rims wrapped in all-terrain tires, and six-piston Brembo® brake calipers.
The first Silverado PPV clearly has a few unique features, though, not least of which is the 5’8 cargo box and the truck’s 9,300-pound towing capability, which exceeds that of the Tahoe by 1,100 pounds. More importantly, the police-bound Silverado has superior ground clearance and approach angles, making it better suited to off-road chases. Police departments will get to choose whether they also want a hard tri-folding tonneau cover or the Multi-Flex Tailgate.
It won’t be available to regular consumers, but if you’re looking to go on off-road adventures, you’ll probably love the Silverado 1500 equipped with the Z71 package, which has some of the same features as the PPV model. Check it out at Sherman Chevrolet in Sherman, Texas!
