Winter Maintenance Tips
Winter weather means the occasional snowfall and colder temperatures. As you adjust to the chill, you also need to make sure your car is up for the season. These winter maintenance tips will help make sure your vehicle runs smoothly throughout the winter until warmer weather arrives.
Consider winter tires
Since we don’t typically see a lot of snow in Sherman, it’s always an exciting occurrence when it falls. When the roads are covered in snow, you want to ensure your car is up for the job. If you install winter tires on your vehicle, you can get better traction, which helps your car’s performance in the snow.
Check the antifreeze and fluids
Make sure your engine coolant and washer fluids are sufficient, whether that entails refilling it or making sure you’ve had your car serviced recently. Throughout the winter, you also want to make sure your gas tank is at least half-full at all times, since a full tank reduces condensation. Check your windshield wiper fluid, too, while you’re at it.
Maintain tire pressure
Changes in ambient temperature can affect your tire pressure, with a pound of pressure being lost every drop of 10 degrees Fahrenheit. Keep an eye on your vehicle’s tire pressure throughout the winter so you can be sure the tire pressure stays at its appropriate level.
Pack a winter safety kit
In case of a winter emergency, pack a winter safety kit. Supplies should include a space blanket, warm clothing, a first aid kit, flashlight and batteries, non-perishable food and water, and an ice scraper.
Polish the headlights
In the darkness of winter, you want to have adequate lighting to improve your vision and safety. Remove dirt from the headlamps, and then apply some car wax. Buff it off after it dries and repeat the process.
